Peatlands for People
Peatlands for People began in September 2017 and delivers community engagement as part of the Bog Squad Project. Its aim is to raise awareness about the importance of peatlands. We work with a range of different groups including schools, youth groups, community groups, nature organisations/charities, arts and heritage centres and museums.
Zine Workshop: Peatlands, Biodiversity and Climate Change
- Saturday 22nd September at Botanic Cottage, Royal Botanic Gardens, Edinburgh 1-4pm
- Saturday 20th October at Hidden Gardens, Glasgow 2-5pm
We will be collaborating with the Edinburgh Zine Library and the Glasgow Zine Library on two workshops - one in September in Edinburgh and another in October in Glasgow.
What is a zine? - A zine is a kind of mini mixed-media magazine which is handmade/self-published. They are made by many writers, artists and creators on a range of themes, interests or passions - see examples that Bog Squad have made for events on the left! Zines are a great way of getting information out there, so can be tailored to any subject and can be easily reproduced with just a photocopier. They are a really fun and relaxing activity with lots of cutting and gluing involved to create something truly unique!
What will we be doing? - This event will be a chance for attendees to hear about the work BC is doing in peatland restoration, climate change, sustainability and nature conservation. There will be time for skill sharing, networking and perhaps a walk outdoors (weather permitting) for inspiration. We will be working on a collaborative zine on the topics discussed and attendees will also have the opportunity to make their own mini zines about their thoughts on the day. We'll be providing all the materials - paper, pens, glue, paint, stamps, stickers, magazines/media to cut out - but if you have some art supplies/reference materials you'd like to use in your zine do feel free to bring them along! This event is primarily being run for adults although interested young people are also more than welcome.
How to book - Both workshops will be completely FREE TO ATTEND however the venues have limited capacities so we do ask that if you want to come along that you contact us to book a space. To book a space please contact Rebecca Crawford on firstname.lastname@example.org.
