This last weekend the Bog Squad revisited Kingshill LNR in North Lanarkshire for a day of ditch damming. Along the way we also spotted plenty of local wildlife, soaked up the sun and then promptly got soaked by the rain.........
The intention for the day was to install some dams on some of the smaller ditches on the reserve. Whilst the dams were slipping into the peat easily enough it became tough work in the gloriously warm July sunshine.....

We persevered through the rain to install the fifth and final dam of the day before moving onto to pulling some small birch seedlings when the rain relented. I'll leave you with some evidence that our dams are providing moth friendly habitats as we discovered this Dark Arches hiding in our plastic piling. | Meanwhile lots of wildlife was popping up all over the place including frogs, damselflies, spiders, grasshoppers and of course plenty of butterflies and moths. It was at this point I made the mistake of deciding to apply some sun cream......... and of course the sun disappeared behind some large black clouds and wasn't seen again for the rest of the day! |
